Visiting An Old Friend on the Meuse River | Queen Fabiola’s Chateau

Nine years ago on Tigre Rose, Lisa and I saw the most beautiful chateau on the Meuse River.  It wasn’t one of the grandiose structures we saw in the Lorie Valley, but much more modest in size. The setting, gardens, architecture and overall balance were what made it so special.  Its beautiful reflection on the mirror smooth water didn’t hurt. While we never forgot our favorite chateau we couldn’t remember exactly where it was. Imagine our delight as ...

Our Departure For Namur, Belgium

We will miss the warm friendly Dutch and their beautiful country.  At least we have Wilco.  He has been invaluable, and always a pleasure to be around. Our next stop was Liege, Belgium. I’ve never had any desire to stop there, but that was a mistake.  After dinner we walked around town to find a dynamic metropolitan center full of active, dancing, laughing, smiling people. Rabelo Goes Topless In The Maastricht Marina!

With so much excitement I’m going to need a vacation!  We are tied up in our favorite harbor in Holland, but once again they weren’t thinking of Rabelo when they built the Maastricht Marina. June 18, 2012

Today Lisa and I along with Rabelo reached another milestone. We managed to enter, tie-up, and then exit a lock without any help from Wilco.  I steered and took care of the stern line while Lisa handled the bow line. Rabelo was a good girl and did precisely what I told her to do. At 127 feet and 150 tons our big baby is a lot of boat for two people to handle, and ...

Settling Into Cruising Life On Rabelo | The Adventure Continues

We are on our way, but I can’t say that we have settled into the cruising life.  We are still sorting things out on Rabelo, learning how to operate her many systems.  The other night I threw the wrong switch, and we lost all power.  They don’t call me Admiral for nothing. When I say lost power, not only did we not have lights for cooking, but there was no water.  Without water there were no showers and we couldn’t ...
